Summer Is Here (and It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect)

Hey Reader,

Summer always starts with such good intentions, doesn’t it? I get all excited to begin the season and ready to get going with everything.

We imagine slow mornings, family memories, fresh routines, maybe even finally reading that book sitting on the nightstand since January. Then suddenly someone needs a ride, there are wet towels everywhere, the kitchen somehow closes never, and we’re eating popsicles in the car between errands.

That counts as summer too. I have to remind myself of that in between all of the things.

I’ve been reminding myself lately that being present doesn’t mean creating magical moments every single day. It doesn’t require expensive vacations, perfect schedules, or memory-making pressure.

Sometimes presence looks like:
• sitting outside for 10 extra minutes after dinner watching the sunset or blowing bubble- 2 activities we have done this summer
• laughing at absolutely nothing with your kids- this has happened often
• buying the good watermelon- we haven't found one of those yet
• letting yourself rest without “earning” it first- they deserve a break too

Midlife motherhood can make us feel like we always need to optimize everything even summer. This season doesn’t need to become another project.

It’s okay if your summer feels messy, loud, ordinary, or beautifully unfinished.

A few gentle reminders for this season:
☀️ Not every moment needs to be documented
☀️ Your kids will remember how they felt, not how perfect things looked
☀️ You are allowed to enjoy this season too
☀️ Rest is productive sometimes
☀️ Small moments are still meaningful moments

This week, I’m trying to trade pressure for presence. I started by going to brunch with a friend and making a fun dinner for the family.

Maybe that simply means putting my phone down for a little while.
Maybe it means saying yes to ice cream on a Tuesday.
Maybe it means slowing down long enough to actually notice my own life while I’m living it.

That’s enough.

I hope you find at least one small moment this week where you feel fully present not fixing, planning, organizing, or rushing.

Remember to be well, be focused, be you.

Somewhere enjoying the moment,
Shanna

Hey Reader, Summer has an interesting way of changing the rhythm of life. The alarms aren't quite as early. The schedules aren't quite as full. Homework disappears. Practices slow down. There are more evenings with extra time to fill, more spontaneous ice cream runs, and more opportunities to simply be together. I love this season. I love how the stress level of my house immediately decreases. I love hearing laughter from another room instead of reminders about assignments. I love lingering...
